This is a fun, engaging, creative and non-threatening intervention which is great for students to explore calm down strategies. Sandwich ingredients represent the various strategies to support the student to calm down. The following strategies are included: bounding on a ball, playing with play-doh, counting to 10, writing down thoughts, listening to music, stretching, quiet time, drawing, reading, going for a walk, meditation, hugging a favourite toy, having a drink and thinking happy thoughts. There are blank copies of the ingredients for students to write down some calming strategies that they like to use. Laminate and use white board markers for students to write their own calm-down strategies to create their own unique calm down sandwich. This is great for a lunch time individual or group therapy intervention. Sandwich ingredients represent the various strategies to support the student to use self-care strategies. The following strategies are included: cuddling a pet, exercise, deep breathing or meditation, journaling, listen to music, have a sleep, visualisation, reading, drawing, listening to nature, get some fresh air, sing to your favourite music, have a nice drink, nice bath or shower. This is a great card game to help introduce and reinforce learning about emotions and feelings. These are a great way to start or finish a group session! HOW TO PLAY 1.Simply pass out the cards to all the players individually. 2.Encourage everyone to sit in a circle. 3.Pick one player to go first. 4.They are to read one of their cards. For example “I have Anger. Who has Happy?” 5.The next person who has the Happy card reads their card and so forth. 6.Play continues until all of the cards are read. 7.If you want to make this more challenging, you can time the game and see if you can break your own record! In this creative activity students are encouraged to identify their emotions, isolate why they feel that way and explore healthy and constructive ways to manage them is very important. Students are encouraged to create their own “Feelings Ferris Wheel” which includes the different feeling carriages. Just like a Ferris Wheel, our feelings come and go. We won’t feel that way forever. There are no good or bad emotions, but there are good and bad ways of expressing (or acting on these emotions). Learning how to express emotions in acceptable and constructive ways is a separate skill that is built on the foundation of being able to understand emotions. Within this mini-lesson and craft we will explore the following: 1.Emotional Literacy – understanding feelings and emotions 2.Isolate that feeling and attribute where it came from. 3.Identify your individual needs when you feel that way, including coping strategies. This portfolio provides a great foundation of knowledge to support teenagers and young people to avoid risky situations and make healthier personal choices. Teenagers and young people are faced with many influences when it comes to alcohol, drugs and peer pressure. Effective drug education can play an important counterbalancing role in shaping a normative culture of safety, moderation and informed decision making. This portfolio takes a harm and risk mitigating approach to provide the knowledge to support individuals to make sound choices and decisions. This portfolio supports student in the following ways: To make healthy and safe choices (drugs, alcohol and legal limits) Identify and reflect on potential consequences Develop and implement risk and harm mitigating strategies Know what to do to stay safe and if needed, reach out and get support This portfolio is divided into six individual lessons which includes knowledge, activity worksheets, reflective activities, questionnaires and a find-a-word. There are a total of 30 Partying Safely Scenario Cards which all include a variety of relatable and realistic scenarios for teenagers to discuss and reflect upon. These scenarios explore a number of realistic situations in which the student is encouraged to explore whether the situation demonstrates a risky or safe choice in relation to partying. There are 15 scenarios which illustrate a safe partying choice and 15 scenarios which illustrates a risky partying choice. This is a great activity to also explore and reinforce the importance of reflecting on behavioural choices and their associated consequences. The student may require some reflective questioning should they need prompting. Each scenario supports understanding, discussion and reflection. This is a great self-reflection workbook that can be utilized in its entirety or as separate activity worksheets. There is a total of 16 pages which encourages self reflection around the students level of anxiety level and introduces the concept of concurrent emotions (i.e.: that one emotion can exist with others). This resource primarily focuses on anxiety and worried but also explores the following emotions which exist concurrently. These include: anger, disgust, disappointment, excitement, furious, tired, scared, nervous, lonely, innocent, confused, embarrassed, happy, frustrated, worried, sad, shocked, surprised, proud, irritated.
